Why does my 2006 f150 run rough when I get off of the highway

My truck starts and runs fine, but after being on
the highway for some time I get off and when I
stop,  it begins to clang, bang, shake, and sounds
like the pistons or rods are goong to explode

Could be that the fuel filter is clogged or the fuel pump is going out, or even built up corrosion or wear in the fuel injectors.
