Could changing trans fluid in my 2002 F150 at 80,000 miles cause torque converter shudder...

I had my trans fluid purged at 80,000 miles at local garage..The receipt says they added 17.70 quarts of Mercon 5..Now I can't drive vehicle over 50 without trans shifting in and out of lockup...What needs to done to fix this.???

Check the level of the fluid when hot. If the system is overfilled it will cause the fluid to airate (make bubbles) in the system. The shifting problem you describe can be caused by an over filled system.

Make sure they really used Mercon 5 as most shops like to use a generic fluid rather than the real (and expensive) correct fluid. Make sure the fluid is at the correct level as low fluid level will kill your transmission fast. There are two transmission filters, one for 2wd and one for 4wd. Make sure they used the right one.
