Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Dies when putting in reverse. Ok when putting in drive. Sometimes dies at stop lights. Know it needs tune up and change tranny fluid. Repair shop suggests removing torque converter. Is that a good idea?

The vehicle cannot be operated without a torque converter. Ask the mechanic why he wants to remove it. How does he know it is bad.

If that is what your mechanic actually said he is a moron. Go to someone else.

The jury rig he'd have to come up with to transfer power from the engine to the rest of the tranny would be a sight to behold.

Install a manual transmission and all your problems will be over..............
