2002 chevy cavalier over heating but heater isn't working

Asked by LoganDeCari Feb 14, 2020 at 12:45 AM about the 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 2.2 sohv chevy cavalier that is overheating
I've replaced the head and head gasket, water pump.
Coolent Reservoir pulled the radiator out and flushed it,
replaced most the coolent lines. I'm thinking it could be
ether the heater core or the water jacket. Have yet to do a
full system flush on it. Any suggestions on where to put
my focus next.

A bad heater core will not cause overheating. Did you check the head for warp and cracks? I would purge air again and maybe flush the entire system, not just the radiator. Make sure the cooling fans are working.

Logan decari, I had the same problem. I changed the water pump and no more overheating. Usually u can see water coming out the little hole on top of the pump. But not this time. I checked it anyway and sure enough it was completely worn out with no symptoms what so ever. Except for the overheating.

No coolent is coming out of the weap hole on the water pimp. Head was checked before I put it back on. Took the radiator out and did a full flush on it. And the cooling fan is operating properly
