Hello i have a 95 f150. Today i was charging the a.c. when it made a screeching noise then turned off. I started it again, but it just screeches turns off and a check engine light appears.

Sounds like the clutch on your A.C compressor started slipping but now has seized up. Needs new clutch or most people just buys a new compressor it comes with a new clutch. Check engine light most likely came on because it picked up the hesitation the engine made when the clutch started slipping.

Also, the refrigerant in the AC system does not evaporate. If it requires more refrig there is a leak in the system which must be detected and repaired before you recharge it. If you are someone you know replaces the compressor the proper procedure must be followed to recharge (pulling a vacuum) or you run the risk of damaging other components of the system.
