bought a 93 ford f150 xl

Asked by WyattGerdes2000 May 09, 2016 at 10:01 PM about the 1993 Ford F-150 XL SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I do believe the clutch is going out because if i get on the gas in 4th or 5th
gear it just revs up. I can slowly get on it and its fine. any ideas on what all
needs replaced?

Probably needs clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, flywheel resurfaced, and pilot bearing. Also I would make sure the rear main seal is not leaking as getting oil onto the clutch friction material will make it slip. How many miles on this F-150?

It has 126,000. It's been fine the past few days it's only when I put the pedal down fast that it slips and revs up. I'm just not sure what all I need to buy

Not sure if they still had manual adjustments on the clutch in 83, but if it does, try adjustment.

theirs not i've looked, any particular brands that would be best to buy and what size pressure plate and clutch plate do i need 10" or 11". what is the difference between the two

10" or 11" refers to the diameter of the clutch disk. I am not sure, but it is possible that only one will fit. If both fit I would get the larger model. NAPA or O'reillys would be good sources for parts.

Before taking it apart check the clutch slave cylinder to see if it is holding pressure against the clutch causing it to slip. I am pretty sure your truck has a hydraulic clutch, but not certain.
