Overheating with AC on.

Question type: General

I have a f150 4.9l standard transmission, with a pop up camper (weighing
about 1K lbs).  When the AC is turned on, it wants to overheat.  I removed the
thermostat and the condition improved slightly.  new radiator cap and fluid.  
Any suggestions?

You could have a problem with the AC compressor going out and requiring more power to turn. Put the thermostat back in. It keeps the engine at proper operating temperature. It also allows time for the coolant in the radiator to cool down before it is pumped back into the engine to cool it down. Without a thermostat all the coolant in the engine will heat up to the same temperature and eventually overheat.

You can also have plugged condenser lines, Also check the fan on the front of the engine. If it is electrical, make sure it works. If belt driven, check the clutch on the fan.
