will 2009 2.2 work in and with the wiring in my 2003 cavalier

Asked by tatenomas Sep 02, 2020 at 11:03 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sport Sedan FWD

Question type: Car Customization

I have a 2009 cobalt lt, replaced the engine however the body and many electric components are going to hell. I have a 2003 cavalier ls sport that is the cleanest cavalier ive seen in Minnesota, no rust anywhere but shes got 280xxx on her. The cobalt engine is kinda a beast, vvti and all plus its only got about 120xxx and would love to just pop her in..... Can anyone tell me if it will work or what will have to be done to get it to work? If the computer can be installed with it to even the generation gap? Or am I just doomed to buy another replacement? I like the extra 30 base hp and have a few bolt ones that

It won't be plug and play, you'll need to swap over much of the wire harnesses and ECU, sensors, other modules, exhaust, etc. You don't have emissions testing if I recall, so you at least won't have to deal with that. Find a good Chevy forum with a lot of topics on late model engine swapping to get a better breakdown on all that is needed. You might also consider just parting out the 09, since it is a good motor, scrapping what's left and and moving on to another car.
