most likely one of the belts in your engine, once they loosen a little they start to squeal.

Glad I am a little skeptical of the foreign auto shops diagnosis(key largo FL not many places to go) go figure!!!! Lol .... He says the sound is from oil hitting the engine which needs to be pulled out and sent to manuf for welding! Already replaced belt and was not making this noise. Thanks for your quick response. Appreciate all and any input as this car is costing a small fortune to keep running!!!

Head gasket is the newest diagnosis. Shouldn't all the belts be checked first?! Sounds like total overkill. Hopping not the case so any other things to test Esdras. Second opinion?

I could be wrong but a high pitched squealing is not usually associated with a head gasket failure

you only have one belt on your engine. The headgaskets do tend to leak on this engine also, but will not cause and squeal (except when you pay the bill). Most likey you have a bad belt tensioner which is not holding the belt tight enough

So now I need to contact the mechanic who replaced the belt and ask him to tighten the belt.!? The same guy who says the noise is the head gasket..... Hmmmmm Is there a way to see this needs to be done before I get totally ripped off if it's just the belt???

In the Uk the belt should cost no more than £25.00 the tensioner for a ptetent item will be around £50 - £60.00 I'll let you do the conversion to Dollars.

I think you misread my question ..... Wanted to know how to tell of he head gasket really needs work. Its costly to have the engine pulled and sent out for repair! if it's just the belt I'm being ripped off. Any suggestions??
