Can I easily make a power window manual

All the window motors burned out and I'd rather make them all manual than
have to replace motors that will burn out again.

Really old cars simply had a strap attached to the bottom of the window. You pulled on it to raise the window but wouldn't it be better and simpler to fix them the correct way? Manual window mechanisms also wear out.
