NO BACK BREAK LIGHTS

turn signal switch is bad chevys are bad about those going out because the turn signals are tied into the outside brakelights the power goes from the brake light switch to the turn signal switch and then to the back chang ethe turn signal switch and you should be good to go its not to bad to chage just a screwdriver and a torx bit are needed ive done a few cars with this problem

ok are your speed dometer light workin i had same problen in my dodge

try taking it to a mechanic(y)

Guru9WD8Q, Lee above, 8 years ago gave a good answer of where to start. The original question was dealing with break lights only. Had I seen this earlier, (8 years ago) I would of suggested looking into the break sensor or switch on the break peddle. Something there is not activating the lights. That's where the electric signal or power starts. The rear window light and the side lights divide into two different paths so when all are not working, start at the front end and work to where they split. There is a good chance ALL lights are burnt out? If all other lights work, it's not that circuit. Fuses? Is there power leading up to the switch on the break peddle? If so, is there power leading away from the break peddle? Unless you are good or have the equipment to test the electrical circuit, your wasting your time. It should not take an experienced mechanic long to diagnose the problem. As these what used to be simple cars get more and more complicated, all depending on computers, it's hard to keep up and have a multi expensive supply of tools to do a fair and accurate diagnose. So suggesting going to a professional if you're not able to locate an issue, is sound advice. Sorry you're so disillusioned.

The multi-function switch (turn signal switch) inside the steering column may be playing up, as Lee suggests. I just fixed this problem for a friend. We replaced the bulbs and checked the fuses, all good. I sprayed WD40 down and around the Hazard Light switch and repeatedly moved the switch form on to off. Sprayed some more. Voila! Blinkers and brake lights back in action. Hope this helps and good luck!
