Check engine light on P0300

Asked by EricTacoma2000 Mar 23, 2020 at 10:47 PM about the 2000 Toyota Tacoma 2 Dr STD 4WD Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Check engine light turned on. I scanned it, P0300 and
P0301. Misfire on cylinder 1 is what I understood. I
changed all the spark plugs and it went away after
disconnecting the battery. A days after driving it turned
back on. I also had overheating problems. I replaced my
radiator cap, the seal had busted. Also replaced the
thermostat and fresh antifreeze. Swapped out the VSV
sensor as well. When I turn the truck on in the morning it
over accelerates to1500 revs, or stumbles (rough idle)
but a minute after it sits at 500 revs. What can cause
this? And how can I fix it. Truck has 150k miles. Second
owner. I did an oil change 2 weeks ago too.

do you still have any fault codes? Try cleaning the MAF with CRC MAF cleaner.

Yes I cleaned it as you mentioned, and reset the code once more but it came back the next day. Anything else I can do. I also replaced the EGR valve while I was at it.

I clean the IAC valve and also the throttle body while I could. I reset the code, drove for a day, about 30 miles. But the check engine light turned back on. Same code, P0300. Also my temp gauge keeps spiking to Hot, it never did that before. I just replaced the thermostat with a fail safe one. What's next doc?

Did the idle improve? I suggest a compression test in case there is something wrong in the #1 cylinder.

Yes, the idle has improved. Sometimes it feels rough when I start it. But it smooths out after. Check engine light doesn't turn right away. It has been cold for the last few days. Don't know if the weather plays factor here. I live in California.
