How to fix ignition problem.

Question type: General

Replaced ignition switch on 2005 Impala Chevy.  The new lock will not go to the
off position.  It will go to on and start but will not go to off.  All lights stay on,and
the only to get them off is to disconnect the negative battery terminal.  What am
I doing wrong, and how do I fix it.

The ignition switch has a gear on the end that meshes with a rack that makes the contacts , they have to go back the same way , you probably moved the rack when you installed the switch and now they're out of synch , that's my take on it .

You may have the lock cylinder installed upside down, if that's possible. Or the switch is defective. There's no rack and sector assembly as the ignition switch is in the dash, not on the steering column. I'm assuming your using the original lock cylinder, correct? Hope that helps! Jim
