There are no major problems with the 1997 Land Cruiser. The enginge in the 1997, as opposed to the 1995 which had major problems, is very solid and drivers have no problems with it. Toyota recommends that the brakes are changed every 15,000 miles so make sure the brakes are up to par when you look at buying one (it's a heavy truck.) The general consensus is that the engine and mechanics of this car are excellent. Complaints are for minor things like gas mileage, something you can expect with any SUV, bad speakers, and not enough cup holders.

Ditto - excellent handling characteristics, a tad under powered, built like a rock.
