2000 Corolla stumbles on acceleration after engine reached normal operating temperature.

My 2000 Corolla starts and runs fine until the engine comes up to operating temperature then it stumbles on acceleration under load.  With the transmission in neutral the engine revs up with no problem. At normal cruise speed the car seems to run fine unless called on to accelerate then it stumbles.  It throws a "lean mixture" fault code.
