Advice needed for this lemon

Asked by Caitlinx Jun 02, 2018 at 12:57 AM about the 2001 Toyota Camry Solara SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Bought a car supposedly in good
shape; engine light came on,
coolant looks rusty, parts are
missing, etc. Need to know: what
kind of spark plugs? Coolant? Oil?
The car manual suggests only
Toyota products. Sure. I would
love some help here. Thanks
anyone.

Well thanks for answering. I took care of the fluids and the spark plugs and stuff and it runs fine except it now has other major problems. The main one is the AC makes a really loud whine when I turn the fan on. We flushed it and recharged. Compressor, right? I did a lot of research on this and some people said as long as I don't use it it will be okay some people said it could mess up the belt because it keeps turning and could break and mess up the whole engine. Kinda scary. Another thing is that the radio was ripped out and only bare wires are there. I've searched and called a million wrecking yards and no one has the OEM wiring harness that I need. I've gotten wiring diagrams but they don't match my wires. ;( I did a search by the VIN at Carfax and it said it hadn't been in an accident. The guy I bought it from bought it from a dealer in Portland (I'm in Oregon southern coast) who I called. He didn't offer much except to say they put new tires on it. I found out the next week it has a salvage title and I think it's been sitting in junkyard.. lots of things are missing on it like trim and spare tire and trunk liner etc. And of course the radio. It needs front brakes badly, that's my next expense. Don't buy off Craigslist!

Salvage title that's not good, that's probably why you're having all these issues.... I think you should consider getting another car. Did you report the dealership?

Well no. He bought it from the dealership. He knew he was a snake and lied about everything including a new radiator and clutch. Yeah right. I think I was impressed because he drove 3 hours to come let me see the car. I guess he knew a sucker when he heard me first say I wanted it. No more$$ to get anything else now. I sold mine to get this one 2 months ago. Any ideas where I could get the wiring harness? Thank you. ;)
