Code problem and trouble starting after filling up

Asked by Guru3L7Y7 Jul 07, 2020 at 11:22 AM about the 2001 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have two issues with my Toyota Camry 2001 2.2: When I fill up, the car has
trouble starting. This is the only time it does this? Is it the Vapor canister
Purge? Secondly, I keep getting the code P0331. Can anyone offer any
advice? Thanks.

As this happens just after adding gas, it's a failing EVAP system component. Could be a vacuum leak or a defective purge valve, or a vent problem. Could also be the result of overfilling where gasoline flows into the EVAP line and contaminates it. The code refers to an engine pre-detonation (knock or ping) that's caused by the EVAP problem.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I apologize but I gave the wrong code. The CORRECT code is 0441. I think that is a vapor canister purge valve. Should I just change it out? Thank you again.

That code identifies an inconsistent Purge system flow.in the emissions system. The problem is more likely a defective purge valve or something in that system.
