Go to another mechanic and have it checked. Sounds are hard to diagnose over the net, especially suspension related.

It may be your ABS braking system, I am currently taking my car to the dealer to see why when road conditions are cold and/or icy I have VERY LOUD scrubbing, grinding, sounds when applying the brakes. Also the car becomes very hard to steer and appears to not be stopping hard enough, it just keeps going forward even though the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor, does this sound similar? Most of the noise comes from the left front of the car, also one-time my back brakes were very loose and had to be tightened to stop noises from the rear of the car, the rear brakes were installed so loose in fact that they were not functioning at all until they were adjusted, there was no explanation for how a car could come from the factory with the rear brakes so loosely installed, check your front left brake
