Why is my 5 speed 96 subaru outback not driving when in gear?

Asked by Subarugirl15 Mar 07, 2015 at 01:32 PM about the 2000 Subaru Outback Base Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just replaced my front axles, I have
a 2.2 liter engine in, not the standard
2.5. I was driving the other day and
my car just stopped driving. It turns
on fine, goes into gear fine, but will
not drive. I noticed two weeks ago
that when in first gear when I go to
shift it pops itself out of first. What
could it be? Hopefully not a
transmission problem? Thanks ,
trying to fix problem ASAP.

this may sound stupid did you look under the car where the axles go in the transmission to make sure they are in there ????sometimes they are not push in enough ?if it is automatic maybe the trans has to be adjusted also the fluid is a good idea too
