catalytic converters

I have recently chose to replace my failed catalytic converter at my local muffler shop with the proper oem part instead of genuine Subaru cat. The original cat failed at around 250,000 miles. Unfortunately I have  had to replace the oem 3 times with each one failing in about 4 - 6 weeks after installation. The o2 sensor was also replaced twice. The first two were replaced under warrenty but the shop refused to warrenty the third failed.  My mechanic insists the car is running well and that the problem is that I was a cheapskate and didn't buy a subaru cat. Do I have to bite the big one and shell out for the subaru cat? shouldn't the oem cat work as specified?Help

The shop does not actually provide the parts warranty so they have no business denying coverage on the third one. And why are they complaining....you pay them labor each time? It's the parts manufacturer who provides one year on parts, no labor. The OEM cat should last as long as original or they shouldn't be sold as an OEM replacement. They're the cheapskates!! And it seems strange a catalytic converter would fail that fast unless the engine runs rich and cooks the catalyst pellets. That should set a code before it cooks.

If the cats show evidence of misfires or other engine problems the warranty would be void.
