98 subaru. how do I power up my phone. will the lighter work? what voltage is it?

going on a road trip in the morning and realizing I don't know the voltage, or if I
can plug one of those USB devices into the lighter socket . . . is there another
socket for power in 98 Legacy?? complete idiot here when it comes to cars,
not to mention electrical things, but I've got about two hours before the store
closes. THANKS!

All the Subaru's I have owned turn off the power to the lighter when the key is off. When the car is running you are good to go (12V).

Thanks! I'm headed for the valley in the early a.m. and hoping to keep the phone going, if I need it . . . better go hit Walgreens ASAP.

There seems to be some debate about using the lighter to power things, but a cell phone seems like it wouldn't ask for too much power. I just don't want to somehow be stuck if I blow something out, like a fuse.
