drive train binds on corners

Asked by agxterra Sep 07, 2011 at 10:30 AM about the 1992 Subaru Legacy L Wagon AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just bought a 2.2 L non turbo 92 Legacy wagon with 115000 miles.  Runs great but when you turn tight in parking lots or corners the drivetrains binds and wheelhops like an old full time 4x4 pickup...It seems as though the viscous coupler is not doing its job...when turning right i can even hear the right rear tire scuffing as well...any hints as to what might be going on?

it sounds like the rear diff may be locked up somehow, if you want to try it yourself drain your diff housing, open it up and give it a look, the rear diff in that car is open as well as the fron the only diff in it that is viscous is in the center so if your having problems it's nothing to do with a bad viscous coupler.

ever heard of a lemon, sounds like the front suspension is worn out.and the rear tire rubbing while turning.not good.
