Transmission fluid temp gets up to 231 degrees

I bought a 2004 Grand Prix gtp from my
friend and was driving it today and notice
my transmission fluid temperature got up
to 231 degrees just wanted to see if that's
bad and i should take it in to get fix or if it's
ok

That's a little higher than normal operating range. Check your trans fluid level, check operation of cooling fans if you have a trans cooler in the radiator. Trans may just be due for service.

my Pontiac GXP was running hot like that . i found out i had a busted radiator cap i removed cap and pieces that were broke off replaced with a new radiator cap and now it is running 170 - 200 degrees. if you loose pressure through the radiator cap the motor runs hotter as well as the transmission.
