2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, ABS and Trac Off lights

Sometimes, but not all the time, when I get going, the ABS lights and Trac Off lights pop on, at the same time.  I figure they refer to the anti-lock brakes and the Traction Control.  The brakes themselves seem to be working fine.  What might be causing it ?? Is this anything to worry about right now ?  How much might this cost me to fix ?

Scan it for trouble codes first. It could be a wheel sensor which is part of the wheel bearing assembly. It's nothing to worry about. The ABS is separate from the regular brake system in that the brakes still work fine without it. Probably $150 to $200 per wheel to repair (if that's the problem) depending on the shop and the quality of the bearing you choose.

Both systems use the same sensor to monitor wheel spin. If the sensor is bad, it kicks off both dash lights indicating you have lost the ABS function and the traction control function. Both will not show any symptom of failure other than the lights but in a maneuvering situation of skid you will miss them. Sensor is a pretty cheap fix. Do it and get these functions back on line for your own safety.
