Heater not working in my 98 Pontiac grand prix

Asked by GuruBDSFC Dec 06, 2018 at 11:25 PM about the 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix 4 Dr SE Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Pontiac heater isn't working. Replaced all fuses
in it and it still doesn't work. All i get is light heat...
I don't have a lot of money to fix what ever the
problem is. I was told to look under my car at the
fan and see if its clogged or to try smacking the
module under my glove box a few hard times. I
don't have a lot of knowledge in things like this and
would all of the advice I can get.

Can you change blower speeds with the selector switch or does the fan speed stay at the same slow speed? If it does not change speeds, then you will need to replace the resistor module that controls it. (Usually found under the hood bolted into the blower housing on the firewall.) If it does change speeds but the temp of the air never gets warmer, then it is a cooling system problem. Could be just low coolant level or a bum thermostat but could also be a clog in the radiator or a temp sensor or a failing water pump. Diagnosis and repair best left to someone competent in this arena.
