Front brakes locked of after purchasing a fixer upper

Asked by GuruS6GXR Jun 17, 2019 at 07:54 AM about the 2004 Pontiac Grand Am SE1

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I purchased a car at a low priece knowing it had
brake problems in need of being replaced . Drove it
to town pulled in to local gas station to check the
fluid and the car has not moved since. it does rollin
neutral either how do I unlock the front brakes. or
dissemble them so I can get it onto a two-wheel
dolly and get it home. Back brakes are drum brakes
and when taken apart spin just fine. it's got to be
the front brakes. it wants to go but it doesn't, not
the tranny. Any pointers would be most
appreciated.

If it "rolls in neutral" the front brakes would not be locked up. But if they are dragging pretty hard, you can usually take a small pry bar and reach in to the caliper and pry in a way that compresses that seized up caliper. Then drive it home without using the brakes, if possible.
