Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So just a few hours ago I took my car into get a simple oil change.
After I left the place that changed my oil I drove around for about
15mins and car was running fine. Then all of a sudden the battery
light on the dash comes on and then my car's dash lights dim real
lightly. Then the car wont shift out of first gear couldn't go over
20mph. Get to a gas station but right before I pull into the gas station
my car dies completely. So I can check the battery cables and they
are fine. When you turn the key the lights come on and everything but
the car won't turn over at all wount even crank over. So I call a friend
they come and end up I jumping the battery in my car and then it
drove fine. Shifter gears fine acted like nothing was wrong with it. So
I'm confused why my car wouldn't shift gears at all and it has never
done this before. How do the lights come on in the car and
everything but the battery needed jumped still. Plus I drove around in
town for over 15mins and it was fine. So I dont understand what is
going on with my car. My dash doesn't have any lights on not even
the check engine light so what is going on with my car or the
problem? Somebody please explain and help me? Thanks

Your battery died. Have it tested and you will find it needs to be exchanged for a new one. All of you symptoms can be explained by having a bad battery and, yes, they just die with no warning.
