Asked by Jamie Jun 09, 2018 at 11:30 AM about the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed coil packs n terminal. Checked relay
fuse for ignition n fuel pump both fine. Starter
turns over,  as well as fuel pump.  I checked to see
if it was getting spark n it wasnt getting spark.
What else could be the problem?

Start with your crank sensor. The possibilities can be a lot of things like your ECM, security system, wiring, etc.

I agree with brotherben. I looked at info for v6, showed two crank sensors, the one that is direct input to ignition module, is the one I'd look at. Did you check voltage and ground at ignition module? Pink wire is voltage, goes hot with key on and is fuse protected. The black wire is ground, check them both.

I just had this problem, the water pump was leaking and caused a short in something below it and 10 amp Fuse #37 was blowing and causing the problem even though it is not labelled as having anything to do with starting

My 2003 grand am had this same problem for months as for needing starting fluid to start. Under the hood there's a fuse box and my wife's car had an a/c fuse ( #37 on the box) that fixed the problem. Changes the 10 amp mini fuse and it fixed the problem. Hope this helps someone.

Hey guys I have a 99 grand am, just was having the same issue. My car would turn over, but wouldn't crank. After replacing several parts that I didn't have to, ends up being a bad mass air flow censer. Replaced it now irs running fine.
