i have a pontiac grand am 2001 and is automatic but is it it possible the transmission can under shift or skip a gear while its shfting ?

idk if a 4 cylender has 5 gears or not im dumb with cars lol but it feels like it skips a gear when shifting up  because as im going it will go up to 2cd while im accelerating its like theres no 4th it drops acceleration i have to let off the gas and  push it again to go in to over drive to get it up to speed  and it vibrates when im in drive when im stopped any advice?

Not a dumb question. Your car has 4 gears. You need to have someone check your transmission fluid level. If it's low that will explain the slipping while shifting. It should be red like cherry Kool-aid and full to the top of the hash marks on the dipstick. The vibration while stopped could be that the engine needs a tune up(any check/service engine lights on?) or it needs a motor and/or transmission mount(s)

it doesent have a dip stick and should have plenty of fluid and no check engin light on mabe i need the sencers checked two i have two of those one on left which works but the one on right they said isent hooked up last i had it in but that was when i took it in for new roters mabe last guy had this car put wrong trainy in it?

Oh that's right you have a 4 cyl. No dipstick but you can still check it by removing the plug from underneath. Remove the plug and put your finger in it and see if you get any on your finger. Look for color and smell. It very well could be low on fluid or the fluid is burnt in which most cases the transmission is slipping. Which also usually means the trans is toast. If one of your sensors wasn't hooked up the service engine light would be on. There is only one transmission that will work in the car. It's a standard GM 4T45-E. It was in the Alero and Malibu as well
