difference between fuel pressure regulator and sensor 98 mercury grand marquis

RELAY OK, NEW FUEL PUMP WILL RUN FOR DAY AND THEN WILL START BUT RUN ROUGH THEN DIE BEEN TOLD REGULATOR OR SENSOR ARE THEY THE SAME THING

They are two different things. A regulator regulates fuel pressure to stay within a certain range (usually 50-60 psi) and a sensor reads the fuel system pressure for the ECU to monitor and adapt to whatever fuel pressure the sensor is reading. Both a sensor and the regulator can have very similar symptoms, so I would try to do more research and troubleshooting before throwing parts at it.
