why does my transmission take forever to shift into first, and second?

when I put my car into reverse, it doesn't hesitate. but when I shift it into drive,
the gear takes long to go into gear. I always have to rev it up for it to go

All of that is true, and sometimes adding TransX or Lucas transmission additive will make things work again. Have you ever had the fluid and filter changed?

no I haven't had the time or money as we bought it as is. we're taking it in anyway to see if it need any minor work, if it is major then we will salvage it.
