2001 Lincoln Town won't stay running

Asked by Apr 15, 2017 at 06:34 PM about the 2001 Lincoln Town Car Cartier

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2001 Lincoln Town Car won't stay
running. It's been sitting for over two years.
When I spray starter fluid in it, it runs when I
hitt the gas and starter fluid is sprayed at the
same time, but when the spray is stopped it
stops running. What is this problem?

Sounds like the fuel pump is bad and would need to be changed out.

first thing to do is add 5 gallons of good fuel !! change the fuel filter...CKECK FUEL PRESSURE add a bottle of ZMAX fuel treatment to 1/3 tank of gas do you have a battery charger to spin it over quicker?

No battery charger. Does the fuel filter have to be changed along with the pump?

You would want to change the fuel filter, you may want to try that first, may be plugged up from sitting for 2 years. Also turn the key to the on position and see if you can hear the fuel pump prime up, hear it run.

OK. Thanks will do

Z-MAX? That's a good one.

Also there is a strainer filter on the end of the fuel pump you would want to change out if it comes to the fuel pump. Spraying starting fluid into the throttle body and it fires off with the starting fluid, indicates a plugged fuel system, bad fuel pump, or no power to the fuel pump.

Or an empty fuel tank.....
