The metal wire in the pic broke off but it
looks like it's attached to the throttle
Cable. I could be wrong. Gas still works
when I step on it.

Tennisshoes is correct. This is the throttle valve cable to your transmission that engages the downshift operation when you require the need to accelerate quickly.
