What is this thing

Asked by Aug 28, 2017 at 12:29 PM about the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The metal wire in the pic broke off but it
looks like it's attached to the throttle
Cable. I could be wrong. Gas still works
when I step on it.

Transmission TV Linkage for the kick down under wide open throttle. Under normal conditions you would not even notice it, but if you wanted to pass someone it would not drop into what they call passing gear, and that is usually second.

Tennisshoes is correct. This is the throttle valve cable to your transmission that engages the downshift operation when you require the need to accelerate quickly.

Wow! Thanks for the fast replies guys.

We try, but sometimes it's just never fast enough.
