Car wont start

I bought a 1999 jeep GC limited. The guy i got it
from said the only problem was the lifter need to
be adjusted and it made a sound like it didnt
wanna turn over but it did. so i took it home. But on
my way home car died out on me . i tried to start it
and it wouldn't start so i bought new battery .
cleaned my terminals and changed the one on the
negative side.  As im looking at it at my house
when i tryed to start it.  It will make a 1 click sound
and thats all so i hit the starter now it makes a long
lasting click sound but wont turn over at all. . what
could be my problem?

Those are hydraulic lifters and they are not adjustable. They get noisy if they get gummed up from lack of oil or oil changes. If you have the 4.7 liter engine, they often have timing chain problems. I would get back to the guy who sold it and ask him what's going on. Hopefully it's not a mechanical problem inside the engine. Okay. You can also check for fault codes by turning the key from Off to On three times in five seconds (quickly). Stop at "On". Don't crank/start the engine. Watch your odometer readout for four digit codes. When the code(s) are done it will show "done". Google those numbers to see the problem if there is one stored.
