Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1998 jeep grand cherokee Laredo.  Driving on
highway and started to sputter/ jerk.  Then the
tranny needle started to bounce a lot and
sporadically, check engine light came on next, and
then jeep dash lights and heater fan went dim and
low and a few seconds later went back to normal
and did it again.  Any ideas what it could be.
Please help.  Thanks in advance.

You said tranny needle. If the tachometer needle bounces around...drops suddenly then back up, that will be failure of the crankshaft position sensor. A scanner will show code P0320. A good quality one is $40 and it's a little difficult to reach on the bell housing, on the driver's side. Be sure to scan for that code before replacing anything.
