What could be keeping my compressor from staying engaged?

My AC has gone out and I tried adding refrigerant
but the compressor will not fully engage.

If you tried adding yourself depending on how yoi charged it you might not have been able to add enough refrigerant to engage the sensor to engage the compressor. Can also check a/c button is on and sending signal where it should like intended
