Why does my engine have to crank over more times before starting than it used to?

Asked by Timolo61 Dec 20, 2015 at 10:07 AM about the 1998 GMC Sierra 1500 C1500 SLE Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck has always popped right off when I hit the key.  Of late, it seems to
crank for 3-4 seconds before starting.  Runs fine.  Battery was weak so I
recently replaced.  Seemed to help but didn't cure problem.  Fuel pump is
about a year old.

Check air filter and clean throttle with throttle body cleaner add fuel injector cleaner to gas tank.

It may just be cold weather especially if you live where it is really cold. A tune up might be in order and if it is really cold you may want to use a winter weight motor oil.
