More HP
I know its probably a dump pointless question but i have to ask. Is their any way, cheap way, to get a little more HP to my 2.3 4 cyl automatic. The 105 Hp with 135 ft lbs torque sucks
Add a drop-in K&N air filter. It is supposed to be better than the paper OEM filter. Also gives you 1-2 mpg increase. Add a flowmaster muffler, which should relive back pressure to provide with little more hp. Other than that im not sure what else you can do. You can always turbo it though.

Alright...here are a few things you can do for your car that might be able to do some good for HP and Torque...and may help MPG too. 1. Cold-Air Intake: this will help bring more airflow into the engine of your vehicle which will, in turn, Bring in more HP and a little bit more torque. Not much though. The more top end of C-A intakes only pump about 20 more HP at most. It also depends on the condition of the engine. Some will also save on MPG as well, which right now would be great. Another good thing is that you won't have to ever buy another air filter....EVER!! just as long as you keep good maintenance on the filter 2. A high flow exhaust system would help too. DON'T go dual on such a small engine. you will lose too much back pressure and it will hurt your engine. go with a nice 3" to 3 1/2" pipe straight back if you can (depending on which state you live in) The better flow will to about the same thing the intake will do...just the other way around. and it will sound cooler too! 3. higher performance engine parts: headers, manifolds, plugs & wires...you name it...you can make it better. In the car world...you really do get what you pay for. If you want a car that will last and last and last..yet give you that HP you say you want...then get the good stuff. Most of the time people are looking for the cheapest way (which you mentioned) but if you do come around with some cash...replacing the stock parts with better, more reliable parts will help too. But option 1 & 2 will be your cheapest bet for now. hope that helps

You can also bump up the timing. That would be cheapest. It will only cost time and a favor from a friend who knows what they are doing. Getting rid of the smog pump and A/C is fairly cheap.
