ive heard no lie bout as much as 18 before but im not sure i think it could be done with some work though 5.0L are badass engines and need to be used as appropriate. (every once in a while dat is) i would try to restore ne thing under the hood to create more mileage cuz gas prices are beatin the hell outa everyone.

My mustang GT gets about 20 mpg but thats with a recent tune up and a performance air filter. These cars get pretty good mileage for such a large engine

These numbers seem pretty high, I have a 1991 2.3 Liter and I get like 20+ city. My friend has a 5.0 and says he gets 15 city stock, but his is an automatic. It will differ from manual like 2mpg+ than automatic.

Sounds like 15-20mpg is about what you're going to get

According to fueleconomy"dot"gov a 1991 Mustang with the 5.0 and Auto gets 16/23 but with a manuel it gets 15/22. I think those are stock numbers so you might get less now unless your engine is in good tune!! Check that site out btw its helpful!!

Wow those are some good numbers for a v8 period. In the case that I did get one of these and it did need work, what would need to be tuned and replaced?

its all on how you drive it and if its is stock you can get about 18 miles to a gallon

I avg 18-19 MPG....24 Hwy.... with just about every bolt on imaginable with a 5 speed and a 3.73 rear end. Get into the throttle alot, and that avg drops to around 16.....

Not bad at all for a muscle car considering that a 440ci 4 barrel gets around 8 mpg lol

if you got one and wanted to make sure it was running properly put some new plugs in it for sure and give her some fresh oil the day yuo get it home. make sure the timing is on also and that the air filter is in good shape. all things check out then the car should run nicely. i almost got one myself but went with an 89 iroc. my friends 5.0 runs 12 flat and he gets about 13 mpg hwy.

Ford in the mid 80's did real well on gas. My Dad's 84 V8 Thunderbird would pull 32 MPG on the Highway. His 86 Cougar 31.
