If the gas cap was previously loose then it may take several days of driving to reset the notification. Take a good close look at the gas cap's sealing surface to make sure there is no foreign material, cracks (at the o'ring) or other damage. You could also try buying a new gas cap as yours may have a problem. If you do buy a gas cap, get one at the dealership and avoid the auto parts stores. Some of their gas caps are of poor quality.
