A frayed or cut wire is a possibility. Put multi-meter probes in the bulb plug in spot and have someone step on pedal and see if voltage is reaching plug in. It should read around 12.4 volts or so. You can get a multi-meter at most hardware and electronic stores. harbor freight sells one for around $10.

one more thing. Be careful with multimeter. You don't want to get the negative and positive to touch as this will create arcing or sparks. a snap crackle or pop noise. be cautious
