Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My wife has a 2002 Ford Taurus SE. In the summer the AC works fine but, in the winter the temperature hand goes up and down and it will only get warm. I changed the thermostat; no help. The overflow tank is filled up to the line; tried running it with the cap off; no help. Any ideas??

Is the thermastat opening that's the only way u get heat I know that it has to be open
