Just bought a 2002 4x4 Explorer XLS for my doughter to drive at college. it has 125K miles and drives perfectly. I thought it had ABS but it does not. Is there any way I can add ABS to it? She goes to school in Idaho and there is a lot of snow and ice driving in the winter. Thanks!!!

Theoretically you could add ABS but you would be much better served to buy a car with ABS already. Are you sure it does not have ABS? I am 99% sure that ABS was standard. http://hillerford.com/v2/resource_library/2002/2002suv/2002explorer 4dr/2002explorer4drframe.htm

I also thought ABS was standard when I purchased the vehicle. But I do not see an ABS warning light come on when I start the car and ABS definitely didn't kick in when I was breaking on the ice covered road.
I would have the ABS codes read if there are any. Maybe the light is just burned out but the ABS is probably not functioning. Look under the hood and you should see the ABS unit, it will have a bunch or brake lines coming out of it.

I think I found the ABS unit. I will stop by an auto parts store and check to see if there are any codes registering. I guess the light is burned out or does not function if the ABS is not functional. I may have to head to the dealer on this one. Thanks!!!
