Gas guzzler

On my 2002 Ford Escape XLT ...why does it suck
up so much gas..... ( example) I live in Pulaski
Wisconsin and I go to Manitowoc Wisconsin on a
full tank and when I get back home to Pulaski it's
just above empty what can I do to fix this problem

Google says that round trip is 120 miles and I would expect a Ford Escape to get 25mpg driving normally. Your tank is about 16 gallons so using most of that says you got only 10mpg. If that is correct you should start with a complete tune up...spark plugs, air cleaner, check tire pressure. There is a fuel pressure sensor that kills gas mileage. Scan for codes. That $40 part will show a code P0193 if it's acting up. Don't replace it unless the code scan says it's bad.
