what is wrong with my engine

Asked by Chet_Roi Sep 29, 2016 at 11:21 PM about the 2002 Ford Escape XLS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 Ford Escape V6 3.0 engine.  I have had the engine replaced, tranny rebuilt, AC rebuilt all within the past 2 yrs.  My check engine light keeps coming on and it says EGR Valve problems. I have had the EGR Valve replaced a e-4 times and the light keeps coming back on. 2-3 of EGR Valves have had a hole blown in it on the cast iron portion. The Exhaust, pipes, and cat converter and exhaust manifold have all been replaced and my car stile has less power than I had before.  Is it possible that the computer is at fault?  Even with all of these repairs the EGR Valve light still comes on after a few hours of running.

Check the port where egr valve connects, it's probably clogged that's why the fault doesn't clear. To test tge egr valve, use a vacuum pump and see if it holds the negative pressure

the check engine light goes off but after diving it home, 8 miles, the light comes back on.could that still b the problem?
