How to preset 2002 Silverado radio

Question type: General

Following the manual instructions will not allow me to preset the radio stations.  
What should be done to allow the preset function?  This is the basic radio with
no cassette or CD player

Try holding the preset button in for a few seconds and see if that sets it.

To rubbernuts, I thank you for the suggestion but it does not help after trying 10 sec. and 20 sec. What other suggestions do have to offer?
