The GM products IIRC use a combination of key on/key off cycles. You may check your fuse panel, some of the Pontiacs I worked on had a breaker-type switch that you could press and hold to reset the oil light. This is on the interior fuse panel. If in doubt a dealer svc. department can tell you the procedure.

On my 2001 GMC Sierra 1500, I turned to the key to the run position (don't start the truck) pressed the gas pedal to the floor five times, turned the key to off, then back to run. The change oil light would blink several times then go off.

I just did what "Keyav8r" suggested on my Silverado 1500 2009 and it worked. Try it! Cheers,

Didnt work for me. Owners manual states: "Turn Key to Run but do not start, depress gas pedal fully 3 times within five seconds. The battery display should blink five times, if it does oil change is reset" And that worked for me :)

If pressing the brake pedal does not reset the indicator then try the same procedure with the gas pedal. Key on, press gas 3 times it will reset. Jim

For my 2001 Sierra 1500, you must turn the key to the run position, floor the gas pedal five times quickly (oil warning light flashes several times), and then turn the key to off. THEN, take the truck for a short drive, and the next time you start it after that, you’ll have no oil warning light.
