Voltage problem

I have a 2001 chevy Silverado my battery voltage
stays at 19 volts to the battery i have changed
alternators three times they all do the same thing
where is my battery voltage regulator located at
and can I put an aftermarket one in to control it to
where it does not cook the battery

It has a5.3 vortec in it

The voltage regulator is built into the alternator and it should limit the voltage to 14.5 volts maximum. If you are actually measuring 19 volts with an ohm meter at the battery terminals, there is something seriously wrong. It will not only cook the battery, it will burn out a lot of the electrical system. It's equally hard to imagine you got three alternators in a row that do the same thing. I would return that (those) alternator(s) and buy a "new" one somewhere else. On a related note, some Chrysler vehicles have an ambient temperature sensor located near the battery that determines the maximum charging voltage based on temperature. If one of those went wild, it could max out the alternator. Anyway, let us know what you find.
