When it rains, heavy or small, my truck won't seem to crank.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1999 Chevrolet 1500 Silverado LS, with a 4.3 liter, (the round body style, not the old school square) I think it is the Distributor Cap and Rotor, I took a look to see how hard it would be to replace it, and well, I have a whole harness of wires setting on top of it in the back, right next to the fire wall, along with some pressure lines from my compressor as well, So what I'm really asking is, if any one has any advice or tips, to be able replace it with a little more ease, since they decided not to give you alot of room to work with.

It just looks intimidating, what is important is to get the spark plug wires on the cap correctly, just take the air intake off the throttle body so you can see better and have more room. The best thing to do is if you look on the cap, the terminals are numbered. Just take some masking tape and write the corresponding number on the cap to the wire with the masking tape. This way you will not get the firing order off. Then pull the wires off of the cap and just unscrew the two screws for the cap, take it off, pull the rotor out & install the new one, then install the new cap, and put the wires back on it where they belong.
