chevy express 2500

i need a transmission for a 99 chevy express 2500 5.7. but it seems theres
two type of transmissions. where do i look to find out which one is the correct
one?  i don't have the owners manual, but i do have the vin number if it helps.

Only two I know came standard with these were the 4L60e and 4L80e, the 4L60e was for 1500's and 4L80e for the 2500 & 3500. Try typing your vin number into an online vin decoder, then going to "tech specs" and seeing what exact model of trans you currently have. (http://chevroletforum.com/forum/vindecoder.php) FYI both can bolt up to same bolt pattern, but the 4l80e is a much more robust trans, and has quite a few differences to the 4l60e.
